The Crows' Story!

.
I think I am writing about crows for the third time...first was about them in my old house (link).  Now, we see many of them in the new house/flat too!

Morning breakfast, curd rice, for the crows! My husband had put a granite slab here just for this purpose!

This one steals clothes clips often!

Towel stealer! I lost two towels...I don't hang the towel here now...changed the place!

He got it! Tries to pull out threads from the towel, may be for cushioning his nest!

The towel was hanging there for a couple of days!

Holding bits of chapatis in his beak!
'Sitting' crow!

You can see the water bowl outside the window.  I was pouring fresh water thrice a day.  They were drinking and then some of them used to ring bread pieces and other eatables, dip them in the water and then eat! The water started stinking later.  Then one day, they pushed down the bowl and it got broke....I stopped keeping water. The stench was unbearable! But always leave some water in a lid on the terrace when I go up to water my plants!

'The girl who gets gifts from birds!' The young girl in this article gets small small gifts in return for the food she gave the crows.

I think my crows also gift me in their own way with neem seeds (they keep them in a row of 6-7), some long leaves and small stones on my kitchen window sill! My son says 'they are gifts for you'!

They sit very close to my husband on the clothes line in the balcony and just look at us without making any sound in the mornings when we have our coffee! They are used to us and we are used to them now!

P.S.: I thought this photo should be included here! This is in the other balcony.  The crows have gifted me 'pedigree' pellets! Added this now! (8th Nov.)

Maami! Great to see the Besant Nagar crows again. Good to know they are doing well, even if it is at the expense of your towels! :)

WINI: Hey, Ashwini, yours is the first comment here! The only thing I don't like about them is they don't let other small birds to come near our house, esp. sparrows. Otherwise I feel OK with them. They are all entertainers for us!

Crows are just like humans -- stealing, gifting, and all! Maybe that's why they've successfully been able to survive among humans. I like their cleverness :)

Wow! I never have seen a crow in a seated position... amazing how they steal the towel and clip hold by its claw. I think they got familiar with you to frequently check your window... very interesting documentation on crows.

Btw. We experience a similar one here, but the species is monkeys. Last week one took away a biscuit packet that kept on dining table and other day took away the biscuits with box. Mom can’t put to dry anything, as they come and scatter away and their annoyance hasn’t a limit these days. Need to write about it.

Those crows have become family haven't they? No matter what anyone says about them, esp. them being the ones to chase other birds away, I rather like them :)

Crows are intelligent birds.. i remember reading an article in The Hindu about the crows.. how the superstitious belief that if they caw in someones roof they would get visitors is true.. also why they are the surviving fittest among birds.. Now you have a unique pet, crows!!

So cute, you have managed to capture their every moment so beautifully. A very good story narrated and picturised so well. I am amazed. I have also read the story of girl who gets gifts, and it seems to be truly happening in your case too. Cherish them.
Even we used to keep water for the birds, but these crows would bring some flesh, bone etc. and make the water stink, so we had to stop.
I can't believe your crows are s o very cute, especially the towel stealer and the sitting crow.
Happy Deepawali to You And Your Family!

DESTINATION INFINITY: It is proven that crows are very intelligent! I am seeing it everyday! Many stories are there!!!!

JEEVAN: Monkeys are more intelligent! They know where food is kept...they know to open the fridge door, everything! It must be tough for your mother to deal with them! Write about them, Jeevan!

USHA PISHARODY: I too get angry when they chase away my favourite sparrows! I stop feeding them for 2-3 days and again when I see them sitting on the window slab and start talking to me, I melt and again feeding starts! They really 'talk' in different tones!

MRS. TJ: I too have read the article! They are the best survivors after cockroaches, I think! Yes, they are like pets, now!

BIKRAM: They were hanging for a couple of days and then gone! Two different towels are there!

RAMA ANANTH: Thank you and our wishes to you too, Rama! The water was stinking after a few hours! Once the bowl broke, I didn't replace it mainly for that reason!

SG: Thank you and our wishes to you and your family, SG!

I had posted some crow pictures and their story on FB a few weeks ago! In this new flat, crows come to eat the rice I leave for them after naivedyam every day. In the previous flat, only pigeons ate them, not letting any crow come near! I think I will have more crow tales soon too :)

ZEPHYR: I will wait to read them! Post some pictures too! They are very intelligent and they understand our thoughts/words very well! I enjoy reading their minds as much as possible!
